Career Guidance Cell
Bijanbari Degree College

Situated in the semiurban town of Bijanbari within the Pulbazar block, Bijanbari Degree College operates a fully functional Humanities wing and serves students from the surrounding region. Despite having a modest enrollment of around 500 students, there has been a collective concern about information asymmetry.

To address this, the Career Guidance Cell was established at Bijanbari Degree College, initiated by a member of TBF Batch 1. The endeavor received enthusiastic support from the college authorities and was officially founded on March 13, 2023. Playing crucial roles in its inception are the teacher coordinators, Ms. Norki Wangmu Yolmo and Mr. Adit Pariyar.

Since its establishment, the cell has expanded to involve 10 student volunteers from TBF Batch 2, contributing to a diverse range of activities.

  1. Seminar on Civil Service Sector: Providing insights into opportunities within the civil service sector, this seminar aimed to guide students towards careers in public service. The speaker of the day was Mr.          Palson Moktan (WBCS, 2018).

  2. Seminar on Business Sector: Focusing on the dynamic field of business, this seminar shed light on diverse career paths within the business sector, offering valuable perspectives for aspirants. The main speaker of the day was Mr. Mingma Girmi Sherpa who is a famous entrepreneur and motivational speaker from Rimbick, Darjeeling. Other guest speakers were Mr. Diwaskar Chettri and Mrs Prekcha      Sharma Chettri owner of 'Dharti- The Glamping Heaven '. This was a very impactful seminar where students were encouraged to put their ideas and set up one business plan. 

  3. Mental Health Awareness Seminar: Recognizing the importance of mental well-being, the cell organized a seminar to raise awareness and promote discussions around mental health issues among students.One of the NGOs of Darjeeling, viz. 'DLR Prerna' was invited as a speaker in this awareness program. 

 

The establishment and activities of the Career Guidance Cell reflect a commitment to empowering students with the knowledge and resources needed to make informed career choices. With continued support and active participation, the cell is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the career trajectories of students at Bijanbari Degree College.
 

Vision

Career Guidance Cell will empower the students with the knowledge and resources they need to make informed decisions about their careers. It aims to bridge the gap by providing comprehensive guidance and support that equips the student. 

Objective

  • To pass the information regarding career opportunities and higher studies to students, through a wide alumni network.

  • Offer a variety of resources and tools to help students explore different career options (E.g. Syllabus, relevant questions, and form fill-up link for CUET.)

  • Provide workshops and training sessions to help students develop the necessary skills. (E.g. Digital competency, communication for the 21st Century.)

  • Continuously evaluate and improve the effectiveness of career services through feedback and analysis of career outcomes.
